Are you not sure which events to enter for 2018 or still having space in your bike event calendar? Then this one here has very good chances to be the one you were looking for! Starting as a local event a couple of years ago, the Girona Cycling Festival has grown into a fantastic international cycling event that should be marked as an annual event in your event schedule!
I have spoken to my friends from Bike Breaks (yes you are right, you have read about them here before!) to find out more what to expect this year and if there is anything new. And yes… there is! In the 2018 edition of the Girona Cycling Festival you will find a new challenge to all Gold and Silver pack entrants – The Omnium!
As I got told, all Gold and Silver riders will be given points per event based on their placing, in both female and male categories. The winner of each event will receive 100 points, with points gifted down up to the 100th place, with 1 point.
Everybody loves points, but what are these points for? The purpose of the Omnium is to have an ‘overall’ winner across all events, to recognise the all-round and most consistent riders. And that I think is really cool!
If you thought about going to Girona for a cycle trip before you might have done your homework to find out what are the most challenging climbs not to miss. And here are the great news…the most iconic ones are covered, like Els Àngels and Rocacorba !
The events included are:
Please note, that the Girona Gran Fondo is not deemed a ´race´, so will not be included in the Omnium classification as such. The segment Rocacorba Challenge will be though!
So in order to take part in the Omnium, entrants register for the Gold or Silver pack! (That’s a must if you want to take part in the Omnium!) Even if you wish not to compete in all events you will still get a points ranking as a Gold and Silver participant in this separate classification!
Everybody loves to win prizes right?
Great prizes will be up for grabs for the Omnium winners and podium places. Follow the Girona Cycling Festival on social media for updates!
