It is just over a week since we are back home in the UK from our latest trip to Girona. It is still tough to switch to normal daily routine. To a cyclist, Girona has so much to offer and makes it so difficult to leave. Although being back home, the brain and heart is still connected.
I can remember our first trip to Girona as if it was yesterday, nearly 2 years ago in March 2016. The plan was to get some nice sunny cycle miles in just after a long winter in the UK. At that time we decided to hire road bikes since it is often a great choice, especially when you go to a place you haven’t been before. It makes it just so much easier, arrive, pop down to the bike shop and say hello to your two-wheeled love affair for the next couple of days.
On this first trip to Girona, the very first two people we have met were Saskia and Dave. They run the Girona cycling centre Bike Breaks where we hired our top of the range Cannondale road bikes. Two years further down the line I am still very happy to call Bike Breaks my first place to go whenever I touch down in Girona. Part is due to the fantastic service we always received and partly because we really like stoping by at the shop to say hello and have a chat.

Bike Breaks is conveniently in the centre of the old town of Girona. You can find it on the corner of Carrer de les Olles and Carrer dels Mercades. A great location if you need to collect your hire bike or if you need to get your own bike fixed. Just recently they got the status of being one of the few Cannondale Test Centres and from this coming season, they will stock an enormous amount of Cannondale products for everyone to test and try.

Back then, when we came to the shop for the first time, we were overwhelmed by the amount of former pro cycle kit that was displayed in the shop. The look and feel was almost like you entered a cycling museum rich on years and years of cycling stories and history. At that time they were selling the original pro cycle kit on behalf of the real owner/rider on the side to their main business being a great local bike shop, renting out, selling and fixing bikes.

A lot has happened since then. In the meantime the cycle clothing business has evolved into its own premises. They opened Bike Breaks Boutique on the opposite site of the main shop. An inviting cute little shop where you can find all the above mentioned kit very well presented. You can find the link to more information and to their online shop here and below.

I can highly recommend to give Dave and Saskia a shout when you are planning a trip to Girona. May it be for a cycling holiday or if you are planning your participation on one of the most reputable bike sportives around, the Girona Gran Fondo. What you should definitely do is to join one of their shop rides which will take you along the fantastic routes around Girona and gives you the chance to meet like minded people that either live in the area or other cycle enthusiasts on their bicycle vacation.
